Eeva-Lotta Rikberg
visual artist based in Helsinki, Finland
Textile has always been the medium for my artistic explorations. I studied design and dressmaking and immersed myself in the world of fabrics, patterns and seams. I never became a dressmaker, but a crafts teacher in stead. As the years went by, I felt a growing need to express myself artistically. Having worked with so many different techniques from dyeing, printing, crochet and knitting to felting it felt challenging to find my own path.
Weaving was something I had been least familiar with. Inspired by some contemporary tapestries I had seen I took a course in tapestry weaving and fell in love with it’s silent and slow pace. Tapestry weaving is a very traditional artform, but at the same time limitless in ways of expression.
